The Gentlemen's Guide To Vice And Virtue (The Gentlemen's Guide to Vice And Virtue #1) By Mackenzi Lee Book Review

I’m not crying you are! I cannot even begin to describe the wave of emotions that ran through my head and the amount of feels that went through my body as I was reading this book. There is no better statement to describe this book other than “Simon-level amazing” and that is a huge compliment from me considering Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda is without a doubt one of my favourite books in the entire world if not my favourite book in the entire world. Throughout the whole book itself I was muttering under my breath “ARE SIMON AND BRAM SECRETLY MONTY AND PERCY REINCARNATED?” because it was just Simon level adorable!
No words. Absolutely no words to describe this book. I swear every word the author, Mackenzi Lee written felt like liquid gold ink on a page because it was just so descriptive and wonderful to read it felt like eating a million-dollar cake. It was a joy-ride of an adventure book and I loved getting wanderlust from reading about Venice, Santorini, Barcelona and Paris and it sometimes even felt as if I was there! It was a beautiful blend of everything that I loved: history, travelling and swoon-worthy LGBTQ+ romance that gave my black, cold, emo heart a glimpse of light. After reading this book I honestly felt as if I was given a million-tiny cute adorable little puppies and watched them play with each other I was head-over-heels in love and I’m not even kidding you here.
But that’s enough fangirling from me. What is this book about you ask? Well it’s about this gentleman Henry “Monty” Montague who seemingly cannot be tamed. Even his boarding school and the constant disapproval from his father cannot stop him from loving gambling, drinking and waking up with women. But as Monty starts going on his grand tour of Europe with his sister Felicity and his best friend (and crush ;)) Percy. But as Monty’s reckless decision makes their fun trip turn into a manhunt across Europe it makes him question everything he knows and loves even the man he adores.
It was just plain cute and adorable incorporating amazing imagery of the 1700’s England, France and Spain and also incorporating political propaganda of the time. But without a doubt my favourite thing about the book were the characters. Can we just appreciate Monty for a second here? I felt like he was the YA book character I was praying to the gods for. I have been so sick and tired of these book clichés with annoying main characters who are obsessed with this toned and handsome guy who seem to be almost robotic in the way that they don’t feel any emotions and are basically a killing machine. But no. Monty was talkative just like me and I felt like I could relate to him considering that everyone tells him to shut up (the struggles are real for us extroverts) but I loved how Monty was perfectly flawed in a way that made me love him so much I wanted to hug him so much I’d squeeze the life out of him (but I wouldn’t because I would cry over Monty because he is perfection in a written form) Percy was so much like Bram only where Bram is a grammar nerd Percy was a violin/music nerd and I was living for it. Percy was not one dimensional in fact none of the characters were there was so much representation in the novels such as Percy dealing with epilepsy and Monty’s abused past.
I need the sequel right now and if I don’t I will literally cry into a pool of blood sweat and tears (insert the BTS song here) book two cannot come out sooner and I would kiss the book the second I see it in the bookstores I swear it.
ACTUAL RATING: 4.8 STARS
