Wildcard (Warcross #2) By Marie Lu Book Review

WARNING THIS BOOK CONTAINS THINGS THAT WOULD GIVE YOU INCREDIBLY GREAT FEELS AND ALL KINDS OF FANGIRLING… YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Those lines above were exact representations of everything that I experienced when I binge read this in a single day. I read mixed reviews about Wildcard and I myself was very iffy about this sequel given that Warcross is one of my absolute favourite novels ever.

But that wasn’t the case especially if you consider all the times I full-on UGLY cried my way through the 341 pages.

Before I go and pour out all my feels let me just briefly sum up what the book is about. So basically we follow Emika Chen again after she concludes the Warcross Championships now possessing the knowledge of Hideo’s new algorithm and the power it holds. Determined to stop Hideo’s grand plan Emika and the Phoenix Riders join forces against the price on her head and the assassins on her trail. Her only option is to join the notorious Blackcoats and Zero’s crew. Emika soon discovers that Zero isn’t all that he seems and Emika soon wonders just how far she will go to save the man she loves.

OH. MY. GOSH

How do I even begin to review perfection???

I feel like I’d be a blubbering mess while writing this because I have never read anything so beautifully TWISTED. I was so gobsmacked reading this…it was 10pm and I thought that I will put the book down and go to sleep but slowly 100 pages became 150 150 became 200 200 became 250 250 became 300 and 300 and_ oh whoops I finished the book. I finished the book very early in the morning but do I LOOK like I have regrets? IT WAS WORTH EVERY SECOND OF MY TIME… EVERY SINGLE SECOND.

I guess I’m not persuading you much and I’m just regurgitating praise but I knew from the beginning that I will love Wildcard just as much as Warcross especially given how many secret BTS references there were. (I appreciated this a lot thank you Marie Lu!)

but apart from kpop references there was so much shady business going on and I WAS LIVING FOR IT.

The whole Zero backstory… OH MY GOSH! You readers will fall in love with it and I’m sorry to say this but it will wreck you. I barely breathed as I read the 100 pages or so of it especially when I started sympathising with Zero’s character (even though he’s the “villain”) and full on HATING on this newly introduced character: Taylor.

Marie Lu has crafted a character that I have never been SO HAPPY to hate on. SHE WAS THE WORST OKAY! VOLDEMORT HAS MET HIS MATCH IN THIS WOMAN. And what she did to Sasuke… to Zero… I ugly cried at 3 in the morning. I was so glad to be seeing more of Hideo and Sasuke’s relationship in this novel and I found that it really brought a special element to it.

I give this book all the stars in the world. I ruined me and made me cry too much and yes I totally would be shoving this in your face for the remainder of 2018 and maybe even in 2019. Is it too bad for me to be asking for a sequel series to Warcross already?

ACTUAL RATING: 4.8 STARS
