Wow so I just read all the 2019 Inky Awards books!
So at the start of the year I decided to read all 20 2019 Inky Awards books just for fun and so now it is the end of the year and I finally read them all! Here is a shortened version of all the books
CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE BY TOMI ADEYEMI
4.7 stars. Very well written with fierce characters AND MAGIC!!!
BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART BY AMANDA HOCKING
4.3 stars. Loved the characters and found the book to be fast paced with a good storyline.
SCYTHE BY NEAL SHUSTERMAN
4.5 stars. Interesting world and death dynamic however it was very slow at times.
WHAT IF ITS US BY ADAM SILVERA AND BECKY ALBERTALLI
4 stars. Disliked the ending but thoughout all round it was a cute romance.
THE CRUEL PRINCE BY HOLLY BLACK
4 stars. Loved the ending however…. the descriptions of food threw it off a bit.
NAVIGATING THE STARS BY MARIA V SNYDER
4 stars. Good storyline however was irritated by the love interest and the main character’s adoration for him.
THE BELLES BY DHONIELLE CLAYTON
3.7 stars. Had a darker layer underneath all that but I’m just not into beauty and fashion enough to love it as much as I could’ve.
I WAS BORN FOR THIS BY ALICE OSEMAN
4.2 stars. Loved the idea but I don’t know. It kinda fell through a bit. However I loved the muslim rep, anxiety rep and transgender rep!
THE POET X BY ELIZABETH ACEVEDO
2.5 stars. Didn’t really agree with the main character being 15 and feeling lustful over this one guy however good representation on LGBTQ+, abuse and religion.
THE ASTONISHING COLOUR OF AFTER BY EMILY X. R PAN
4.3 stars. Very strange but I really loved it especially with the mental health rep 🙂
LIFELIKE BY JAY KRISTOFF
2 stars. Some of the language was hard to get around. Disliked Ezekiel who was basically
borderline Daniel from The Sun is Also A Star. Did not like the romance at all. Liked the cliffhanger though.
A THOUSAND PERFECT NOTES BY C. G DREWS
4.1 stars. Very poignant with good abuse rep. Great debut from @Paperfury!
I AM OUT WITH LANTERNS BY EMILY GALE
4.2 stars. Well written with storylines that intertwine well even with 6 perspectives!
THE ART OF TAXIDERMY BY SHARON KERNOT
3.2 stars. About grief and about a girl who likes taxidermy. Low key creepy but still an easy read
WHISPER BY LYNETTE NONI
4.9 stars. That ending. Every cliffhanger ever! I was killed by Lynette Noni! I also read this twice!
HIVE BY A. J BETTS
3.5 stars. Didn’t understand the premise of the book about these leaks.
AMELIA WESTLAKE BY ERIN GOUGH
4.5 stars. Really fun and fierce. Good LGBTQ+ rep and I loved how it tackled feminism too!
ICE WOLVES BY AMIE KAUFMAN
4.2 stars. Very good middle school fiction however I think it’s a bit too young for YA readers.
WHITE NIGHT BY ELLIE MARNEY
1.8 stars. Was very bored by the whole book. Thought there’d be more about cults and more characterisation.
AFTER THE LIGHTS GO OUT BY LILI WILKINSON
3.6 stars. Interesting and well written however I did not understand the thing with Grace’s character.
